What She Actually Wants for Mother’s Day (It’s Not Another Candle)

Mother’s Day has a habit of sneaking up on us.
One minute it’s half-term chaos, the next we’re panic-buying flowers at the supermarket and hoping they last until Sunday.
But if we’re honest, most mums don’t really want another candle (although I might - I do love a candle!), or a box of chocolates we’ll end up sharing.
What we really want is to feel like ourselves again.
Not “Mum.”

Not the organiser.
Not the taxi driver.
Not the one who remembers everyone else’s appointments.
Just ourselves.
I speak to so many local women who are brilliant at looking after everyone else, but rarely stop long enough to ask what they actually need. And so often it isn’t something big or dramatic.
It’s an hour of quiet.
It’s someone else taking care of them for a change. I’ll say that again for those at the back It’s someone else taking care of them for a change!
It’s looking in the mirror and seeing a fresher, more rested version of themselves staring back.
Mother’s Day doesn’t have to be extravagant. In fact, the most meaningful gifts are often the simplest - time, attention, and the space to switch off.
Whether that’s refreshed skin, shaped brows, or simply sitting still without someone calling their name every five minutes, it’s the feeling afterwards that matters.
Because when a woman feels good in herself, it changes how she moves through the world.
And that’s worth far more than another candle.
If you’re planning ahead this year, thoughtful little experiences (and yes, gift vouchers are available online or in salon - far easier than queuing at the petrol station for flowers!) can make all the difference.
